Glendale, Arizona — First Baseman Andrew Vaughan White Sox manager out for several days with back pain Pedro Grifol said on Saturday. Grifol said Vaughn is living his normal life, having not played in a Cactus League game since last Sunday.
“Andrew is going to take a few days off,” Grifol said. “We make mistakes carefully. He had a lot [31] He’s had a lot of at-bats. “
Vaughan is batting .323/.364/.516 this spring with one home run.and Jose Abreu Gone, Vaughan is the Sox’s daily first baseman.
Back issues always require caution, but Grifol downplayed the gravity of Vaughan’s condition. He’s 12 days away from opening day—his March 30th in Houston.
“He’s in a good spot,” said Grifol. “There is no reason to force anything on him. If you asked him if he could play now, he would say yes. He feels comfortable at first base. We like his swing. He likes where his swing is. So we’re fine.”
On Friday, Grifol said Vaughn was out with “pain” but said he would not elaborate until Saturday.
“I just let him rest,” said Grifol. “But he is every day.”
kopeck is not so sharp
After retiring all nine batters he faced and hitting 98 mph in the first game,Michael Kopech In his second start with the Dodgers, he allowed one run, two walks, three hits and three strikeouts.
Kopech 2 throws 2⁄3 Inning, he reached 95 mph and sits 91-92 with the stadium guns. In the 3rd inning, he walked the leading batter and was ejected.
“I don’t think it was that much today,” he said of his speed. “I also know it will be there when I need it.
Kopech, who recovered from knee surgery at the end of the season, started progressing into the season later than other starting pitchers.
“I threw a slower curveball than I expected, but the shape and efficiency were there,” Kopech said. “I know it will recover and come back, but I’m not too worried about it at this point.

“What impresses me most is not the 100 mph fastball, it’s not the slider he throws to strike a high percentage, which is a good combination,” Grifol said. “His will to be great, that’s what impressed me the most.”
Grifol said he only needed to give instructions to Santos once.
