Victim of fatal McLean County SUV-freight train collision identified

UPDATE 4:08 P.M. – The McLean County Sheriff’s Office says the crash involving a freight train and sport utility vehicle near Arrowsmith appears to be a tragic accident.

The rural train crossing does not have lights or crossing arms but is marked with common crossbucks and yield signs in both directions, according to Sheriff’s Office chief Deputy Jeff Kretlow.

The crash killed Susan Wright, 75, of Saybrook.

ARROWSMITH (25News Now) – The victim of a fatal collision between a sport utility vehicle and a freight train has been identified.

A joint release from McLean County Sheriff Matthew Lane and Coroner Kathy Yoder identified the victim as 75-year-old Susan Wright of Saybrook.

Preliminary autopsy indicates that Wright died from multiple blunt injuries due to the collision between an SUV and a train.

Toxicology is pending.

The incident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office, coroner’s office and Norfolk Southern Railway.
