UPDATE: Fire put out at Caterpillar’s foundry in Mapleton

UPDATE – The lead fire department called to a fire Tuesday night at the Caterpillar Foundry in Mapleton said first responders found fire on all three floors of the building.

The Timber-Hollis Fire Protection District said in a Facebook post that fire was also found inside duct work coming from a cooling tunnel.

Timber-Hollis and Caterpillar fire crews entered the tunnel to knock out the fire, while firefighters from the Logan-Trivoli Fire Protection District put out the fire on the second floor and the roof.

Caterpillar spokesperson Lisa Miller said in a statement that the facility was evacuated “out of an abundance of caution” and no one was hurt.

MAPLETON (25News Now) – No injuries have been reported after a duct fire Tuesday night at the Caterpillar Warehouse in Mapleton.

According to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, the fire happened around 9 PM Tuesday night.

Both the Limestone and Logan-Trivoli Fire Departments were also called to fight the fire.

The report states that the fire captain and head of security at Caterpillar told the Sheriff’s Office that the fire started on a melting pot and spread through the air ducts.

Everyone inside was evacuated and put into the cafeteria for the time being.

No injuries were reported.
