Two people were taken into custody after barricading their homes, prompting a SWAT response Monday night at West Garfield Park on the West Side.

Chicago Police said “many criminals” tried to prevent the arrest as officers were detaining an armed person on Block 4400 of West West End Avenue at about 7:40 p.m.

Officers then tasted one of those who intervened, police said. The arrested and tasted barricaded themselves in the house and opened fire minutes later, officials said.

Both were detained and their weapons recovered, officials said.

No injuries have been reported.
