Two children killed after being pulled from suburban Palatine Pond after falling into water


Two young children who were pulled from Palatine Pond after falling into the water on Wednesday died hours after being taken to hospital for treatment, officials said.

The 4-year-old boy, who was originally taken to Northwest Community Hospital and then transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, was pronounced dead before 11:45 p.m. Wednesday.

A 6-year-old boy who was taken to Oak Lawn’s Advocate Christ Medical Center was also pronounced dead before 4 a.m. Thursday, according to Palatine Police.

Palatine officials said two children had been rescued after falling into a pond on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said police and firefighters were called to a pond on Block 800 of West Panorama Drive around 3:31 p.m. to report a group of children who had fallen into the water.

When they arrived, they were able to pull two males out of the pond and both were taken to a local hospital.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
