URBANA — Two people from Rantoul remain in the county jail following their arrest early Monday in Urbana for having drugs and a gun in a car.
A release from Urbana police Lt. Mike Cervantes said officers saw Danielle Hoffman, 19, commit an alleged traffic violation at the intersection of University Avenue and Orchard Street in Urbana about 12:10 a.m.
A University of Illinois police dog trained in drug detection did an “open-air sniff” and alerted officers to the presence of drugs in the vehicle.
Police found about 3 ounces (88 grams) of suspected cocaine, 4 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 2.5 grams of prescription amphetamines, just under 2 ounces (52 grams) of cannabis, and drug packaging materials.
Hoffman was charged Tuesday with possession with intent to deliver cocaine and cannabis.
Her passenger, Robert Hunter, 53, of the 1300 block of Abram Drive in Rantoul, was found to have a loaded pistol that police learned had been reported stolen, the release said.
Hunter was charged Tuesday with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession with the intent to deliver cocaine and possession with the intent to deliver cannabis.
