Troopers ID school bus driver, truck driver in Rte. 51 crash that left 4 students injured

PERRY COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) – Multiple agencies responded to the scene of a crash on Route 51 Thursday evening, November 9.

Illinois State Police report the bus driver and four students were taken to an area hospital with varying injuries. They say 11 other students were uninjured, as well as the truck driver.

Troopers identified the school bus driver as a 52-year-old Du Bois, Ill. man. The truck driver was identified as a 52-year-old Orlando, Florida man.

They say all of the children were accounted for and reunited with their guardians.

The crash happened around 3:10 p.m. on Thursday.

According to the ISP preliminary report, a truck-tractor with a flatbed trailer was stopped on Route 51 southbound waiting to turn east on Kimmel Road. For an unknown reason, the school bus failed to avoid the truck, hitting it.

Multiple agencies were on the scene of a crash on Route 51 near Du Quoin, Ill. involving a semi and a school bus Thursday evening, Nov. 9.

A traffic alert from the Perry County Emergency Agency asks drivers to avoid the area of Route 51 and Kimmel Road because of a crash with injuries.

Troopers closed the road for the investigation. The roadway reopened around 8:35 p.m.

The school bus was from St. Bruno Catholic School in Pinckneyville, Ill.

According to the school’s website, it teaches elementary-age students.
