On Fridays, we’ll spotlight the men and women serving up cold ones and conversation in our neck of the woods. Let us know about your favorite bartender by emailing [email protected].

Crystal Smith has a lot on her plate: she’s a full-time preschool teacher, a mom of four and a bartender two or three nights a week at Pipa’s Pub.

She’s been a bartender since 2011, but started at Pipa’s in 2018 after her best friend — and now coworker — Miranda Kenyon convinced her to.

“There isn’t drama, and it is always a good time here,” Smith said. “Anyone can walk in our front door and feel comfortable and welcome.”

Smith said the staff at Pipa’s has become a family, but she loves meeting all the different customers who come into the bar, too.

Her favorite drink to make is one of her favorites to order, too: Vegas Bombs, but specifically Pipa’s style, with apple Crown Royal instead of regular.

Angry Orchard with a shot of peach schnapps, a combination Smith came up with, has also caught on with customers.

While she recommends the drinks, Smith said people should also come to Pipa’s to hear some live music and enjoy the “down to earth” atmosphere.

“I love knowing that I can make great memories on both sides on the bar, working and drinking,” Smith said.
