On Fridays, we’ll spotlight the men and women serving up cold ones and conversation in our neck of the woods. Let us know about your favorite bartender by emailing [email protected].
For Rosemary Ferrara, bartending at the Rose Bowl Tavern is all about providing the best experience for customers.
Her favorite drink to make is your favorite drink.
“Whatever your drink is, I want to ensure that you get a great one,” Ferrara said.
And her favorite moments are being part of guests’ favorite moments.
“That night you got to see your favorite band, your first time onstage at the Hootenanny, or watching musicians grow at events like the Wednesday jazz jams,” Ferrara said.
She started working at Rose Bowl 31/2 years ago. The joke is that owners Marten Stromberg and Charlie Harris didn’t hire her; fellow bartender Mark Peaslee did.
“Peaslee and I worked together previously and made a great team,” Ferrara said. “So when they needed some extra help, Peaslee decided that was me, and frankly, there’s no arguing with Mark Peaslee.”
At first, Ferrara only worked a couple days a week, but she took on more because she felt the owners were headed toward greatness.
She still feels that way and recommends people come by for everything the venue has to offer: art, drinks and great staff.
Ferrara said to look forward to events coming up like the annual Pi Omega Omega Mustache Contest and a concert from the Way Down Wanderers.
If you want to keep up with the Rose Bowl and with Ferrara, she said to check out the Bowl of Roses page on Facebook for the inside scoop.
“The Bowl of Roses pages are the scene report from behind the bar, and a fun way for me to dog on Charlie,” Ferrara said.
