Officials at the University of Iowa’s athletic department say the University of Illinois’ Orange Clash fan group obtained discounted tickets to the weekend’s men’s basketball game under cover.
A statement from Iowa Athletic said the department recognized the order this week and canceled and refunded the ticket.
“The Iowa State Track and Field Department has learned of a discounted group ticket order for the Iowa vs. Illinois men’s basketball game on behalf of the Illinois chapter of the Boys & Girls Club,” a spokesperson said. A follow-up investigation of that organization revealed that this was not the case.We contacted the individual who placed the original ticket order and admitted that he had mistakenly ordered the tickets under the non-profit organization. ”
The university has refunded ticket orders and donated the tickets to Cedar Rapids Boys & Girls Club, according to a statement.
“We look forward to welcoming these kids to our sold-out Carver-Hawkeye Arena this Saturday,” the statement concludes.
In a statement, Orange Crush said a total of 200 tickets had been “voided” by the school, leaving the problem with bus rentals costing nearly $6,000.
“It is very disappointing for the 150 students who raised a total of $2,649.41 for local charities to be invited on this trip,” the group said. We regret that you have refused to face the consequences of an error you made in selling your tickets to our billing address in Champaign, Illinois.
