DENVER — Trejon Hamilton, 24, returned home nearly two weeks after he was shot and killed in Denver’s Lower Downtown (LoDo) neighborhood.
Hamilton was one of 10 people injured after the Denver Nuggets clinched their first NBA championship on June 12.

“It all happened so fast. I didn’t expect it at all,” she recalled.
After work, Hamilton and his girlfriend, Tina Pham, headed downtown for a rare night out to meet friends.
“We were just expecting to go out, have fun with our friends and party. We didn’t expect something like this to happen, especially with the amount of police presence there,” Pham said.
the shooting, first reported by Denver Police shortly after midnight, it happened in the 2000 block of Market Street where thousands of people had gathered. Investigators determined the shooting was drug-related and unrelated to the celebration.
“Literally we just see two big groups of people. They start arguing, and then out of nowhere I see one [person] pull out a gun and start shooting,” Hamilton said. “I started running, but I don’t know. Right away, something felt strange to me. I touched my backside and felt nothing but blood. I saw my hand was bloody and I was like, ‘Oh, I think I got hit.’”
Hamilton was rushed to Denver Health, where he remained for two weeks. He was released on Tuesday after undergoing four surgeries.
“The bullet went through my lower back, but it was in my stomach. There was no exit wound at the time,” Hamilton said. “I honestly didn’t know if I was going to make it because I didn’t feel well, and it was hard for me to process it all and stay conscious.”
A nurse bought Nuggets championship gear for Hamilton. She was also able to visit her friend Keith Sablan, who was also killed that night. Sablan is still recovering in hospital.

Hamilton is grateful to be home now with his girlfriend. He’s got a long way to go and he’s only months away from getting back to work, he believes.
“I’m just hoping that with time I’ll be able to get back to myself, be able to walk and stand up without pain,” Hamilton said. “It didn’t need to be right there. There were so many innocent bystanders nearby.”
An injured suspect, identified as Ricardo Miquel Vazquez, 22, was arrested shortly after the shooting. He was arrested for an investigation into a previous offender’s possession of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance.
Raoul Gottfried Jones, 33, was also arrested on the night of the shooting. He was arrested for an investigation into a previous offender’s possession of a weapon.
Kenneth Blakely, 24, was arrested on June 23 in an investigation into attempted first-degree murder.
