Chicago police called a SWAT team to the West Garfield Park residence after a group of men who tried to free another man in custody opened fire on responding officers.

Authorities said the incident occurred around 9:41 pm on Monday in the 4400 block of West West End Avenue.

Police say they had an armed individual in custody when a group of individuals tried to help free the man from custody.

Officers called for more help to the scene, and police used a taser to try to subdue one of the suspects. He was able to escape and ran into a nearby residence, where he fired several shots.

A SWAT team was called into the barricaded situation and remained on site Monday night.
