GARY, Ind. – One suspect died as a result of a shooting by the officer in Gary Tuesday.
Gary Police responded to the 1500 block of Chase Street for a domestic disturbance at around 3 p.m. after receiving a series of 911 hang-ups.
When officers arrived, police said a woman ran away from the house and told them a gunman was inside.
According to the investigators, the agents saw the armed man on the doorstep of the house and attempted to negotiate with him.
Gary’s crisis negotiator and SWAT team were called. Negotiations with the armed individual that lasted more than 30 minutes were unsuccessful, according to Indiana state police officials, who are leading the investigation.

Police say the armed individual then left the house with a gun to his head and walked to a parked vehicle and entered.
“Once he entered the vehicle, a sequence of events occurred between the male subject leaving the house and the SWAT team who were on the scene. This ultimately led to the shooting and the suspect is now deceased,” said the sergeant. Glen Fifield with the Indiana State Police.
At least one Gary SWAT officer shot the suspect, according to the ISP. Officials have not yet revealed how many shots were fired or if more than one officer fired their service weapon.
Police also say it is currently unclear whether the gunman shot himself or the officers.
