Suspect arrested in connection with smashed windows at Carbondale businesses; later released without charge

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) – Police have arrested a suspect in several recent reports of property damage. However, later that day, he was released from custody.

Between midnight and 5 a.m. between June 27 and June 29, windows were broken in businesses on 800, 900 and 1400 blocks of West Main Street and 100 block of North Illinois, according to Carbondale Police. .

They say each incident occurred in a law firm. Police believe the incidents are connected.

They say the suspect used a hard object, such as a rock and/or chunks of concrete, to break down the window.

The suspect was seen wearing a dark colored “Huk” branded T-shirt, a white on blue or black “trucker style” baseball cap, and dark colored boots or shoes with light trek style soles. He hides his hands by wearing socks or a piece of clothing.

With the assistance of the Jackson County state attorney’s office, Carbondale investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Dustin L. Randolph on Friday, July 7, charging him with five counts of misdemeanor property damage. Randolph was located and arrested in Carterville on Friday afternoon.

Upon further investigation, investigators determined that there was no probable cause to charge Randolph with criminal property damage at this time. Randolph was released from custody without charges. The investigations are active and ongoing.
