56 percent of Czechs are strongly opposed to Russia’s demand that Ukraine not join NATO. Another 14 percent are more against it. On the contrary, a fifth of respondents spoke in favor of hearing the Russian request at the turn of February and April.
The current results differ significantly from the same survey that Kantar CZ conducted in mid-February, ie before the Russian invasion. At the time, 30 percent of respondents were in favor of hearing Russia’s request. A quarter of respondents were more in favor and strictly rejected it by 30 percent of Czechs, ie about half of the current number.
“Interestingly, the change in opinion has become even stronger among people with lower education, and also among seniors, which are groups that are usually a bit more accommodating to the Russian Federation, but changed their minds significantly after the invasion began,” Kantaru analyst told CT. Pavel Ranocha. In terms of political preferences, he said, Russia’s request would rather be accepted by voters of the SPD and the Communist Party.
The survey was conducted by the Kantar CZ agency in two waves. The first took place between 14 and 18 February, the second from 28 February to 4 March. A total of 1,200 respondents took part in the survey. The Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24.
