The rainbow-haired rapper, whose real name is Danielle Hernandez, suffered a cut on his face, lawyer Lance Lazaro told TMZ.
CBS Miami was unable to contact Lazarus on Tuesday night, and it was not clear where in South Florida the attack occurred.
Videos posted on several social media sites showed Hernandez on the gymnasium bathroom floor with at least two men kicking him and grabbing him by the hair.
6ix9ine was a social media phenomenon with millions of followers on Instagram before becoming a dominant name in hip-hop.
He had the multi-platinum hit “Fefe” with Nicki Minaj, which reached #3 on the pop charts, and “Stoopid,” which featured incarcerated rapper Bobby Shmurda.
Lazarus told TMZ that 6ix9ine, who had no personal security with him, tried to fight back during the attack, but was overwhelmed and outnumbered.
The rapper was released early from federal prison after cooperating with law enforcement officials to prosecute a fellow gang member, CBS Miami says.
