Rantoul man gets five years for cocaine found in search of home

URBANA — A Rantoul man who admitted having cocaine he intended to sell has been sentenced to five years in prison.

Demarco Gray, 46, whose last known address was in the 1300 block of Harper Drive, pleaded guilty Monday before Judge Roger Webber as his jury trial was scheduled to begin.

He admitted that on May 19, 2022, he had about 12 grams of cocaine that was tossed out a window as officers from the Champaign County Street Crimes Task Force were conducting a court-authorized search of his residence.

Gray has several prior felony convictions for possession of burglary tools, burglary, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, aggravated driving under the influence, aggravated possession of a gun by a felon, possession of a controlled substance and driving under revocation.

Webber is allowing Gray to turn himself in Oct. 20 to begin his prison sentence.
