CHAMPAIGN — More than 200 traffic stops were made in Champaign-Urbana on Wednesday evening in what state police are calling a saturation detail.
State police conducted the detail with Champaign, Urbana and University of Illinois police and the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office from 4-11 p.m.
“The detail was intended to enhance public safety through the enforcement of traffic violations, while being charitable to the inadvertent violator,” said Trooper Jayme Bufford, state police public information officer.
During the seven-hour period, there were 235 traffic stops made and 49 citations and 302 warnings issued.
There were also 19 drivers removed from the roads because they didn’t have driver’s licenses or had suspended or revoked licenses.
The detail also resulted in one DUI arrest, arrests for 11 criminal violations and the seizure of 286 grams of cannabis and one gram of a controlled substance, Bufford said.
