An officer was hit by a car Friday night on DuSable Lake Shore Drive near Roosevelt Road when a driver backed up and collided with an approaching officer on foot, according to Chicago police.

Shortly before 8:15 p.m., officers saw a vehicle matching the description of a wanted vehicle associated with a degraded battery earlier this month. Officers tried to stop the vehicle on his 1100 block of DuSable Lake Shore Drive, but as they approached, the driver drove the wrong way and crashed into the officer, police said.

Officers fired their weapons, but no one was hit.

The vehicle fled south and stopped at Block 7200 on South Vincennes Avenue where residents fled on foot. But he was arrested, police said.

The officer was taken to a local hospital with a broken leg and was listed in good condition.

The Civilian Department of Police Accountability was investigating.
