LAKE COUNTY, Ill. – Billy the Bison is once again making headlines as his saga moves into a courtroom.
The bison’s story began in September last year, when it broke free while being moved to a farm Lake County.
The huge animal was on the run for eight months and finally wandered into the Lakewood Forest Preserve.

And this is where the real troubles started.
The owner of the farm where Billy was headed is now accused of violating a state law by allowing the animal to graze on county land for nearly a month.
He worked with forest reserve district officials to try and capture it without success.
Eventually Billy was arrested and now the farm owner is dealing with taxes and some fines.
A bench trial is set for February.
