OGDEN — Wanted: one part-time mayor to lead a cozy Champaign County community of 721 for an annual salary of $4,000 (plus another $100 per meeting).

Halfway through his second term, Gabe Clements told the village board via letter that his last day in the role will be Nov. 1. He’s moving out of the town he’s called home since 2009.

“It has been an honor and privilege to serve the citizens of our community over the last several years,” Clements wrote in an email to the board.

It will be up to the remaining board members to pick Clements’ replacement, a process that will begin at their Nov. 2 meeting, reports Nora Maberry, editor of the St. Joseph Record.

The board will choose one of its current members to serve as acting mayor. If none of the current board members want the job, they can choose another Ogden resident who meets the qualifications for holding municipal office.

Clements was first elected in 2017, beating incumbent Jack Reidner by a margin of 166 to 81. He ran unopposed in 2021.
