National City, California (CP)  Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire on the 2300 block of East 5th St.

National City, California (CP)  Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire on the 2300 block of East 5th St. When units arrived, they found a two-story house that was fully engulfed with flames from the first and second floor of the residence with reports of potential trapped victims still inside. Firefighters learned that 2 of the victims were trapped on the 2nd story balcony of the residence and were able to rescue them.

4 dogs including 2 cats were also pulled from the home. A total of 4 adults were displaced and 2 of them were transported to hospitals with smoke inhalation. The American Red Cross was requested to assist the residents that have been displaced. No other injuries were reported. The house was deemed a total loss and fire investigators are determining what caused the fire. A man was seen detained by police but was released shortly after.
