The Street Race, which will start and finish in front of Buckingham Fountain, will take riders past some of the city’s most iconic lakefront landmarks. Announced in July 2022the race met with mixed reactions.
City officials touted the revenue-generation potential as opponents, including Friends of the Parks, filed complaints against closing Grant Park to the public during the summer peak season.
The park district sold NASCAR the permit for $500,000, plus fees on concessions, merchandise and ticket sales.
