LOS ANGELES–()–Miller Barondess adds Nadia A. Sarkis, top appellate partner, continuing the expansion of the firm’s appellate practice.

The addition of Ms. Sarkis to the firm’s appeals team of Mira Hashmall and Ellie Ruth further solidifies the firm’s effectiveness in representing clients at every stage of litigation, from pre-litigation counseling to trial and appeals. Clients and colleagues rely on the firm’s appeals team to successfully develop a case long before an appeal is filed. The team assists with dispositions and other significant pre-trial motions and is instrumental during the post-trial motion phase, when matters are being prepared for appeal.

With an extensive appellate practice, Ms. Sarkis has informed and successfully litigated appeals on a wide variety of topics, including product liability, employment, punitive damages, civil rights, anti-SLAPP, and a myriad of commercial matters. She has appeared as amicus curiae on the Ninth Circuit and in the US Supreme Court. Ms Sarkis obtained a curiam reversal in the US Supreme Court during her 2021 term in Rivas-Villegas vs. Cortesluna and won a $15 million punitive damages award set aside in a case involving managing agent liability.

“We are delighted to welcome Nadia to the company. Adding her to our appeals file is a natural move for us. She is smart and tenacious. We are excited about what this means for our company,” said Skip Miller, founding partner of Miller Barondess.

“Miller Barondess is deservedly well known in the Los Angeles legal community as a litigation powerhouse with a talented team. I look forward to helping the firm strengthen its appeals capabilities and partnering with exceptional attorneys to serve our clients,” Ms. Sarkis said.

Partner Mira Hashmall, a certified appellate law specialist, leads the firm’s appellate practice. Ms. Hashmall’s appellate experience includes First Amendment, defamation and libel, insurance coverage, employment, real estate, contracts, whistleblowers, public agency, anti-SLAPP, and other areas . She is also one of the best trial lawyers having earned top verdict recognition from both plaintiff and defense sides. She is recognized among the top 100 attorneys in California.

Associate Ellie S. Ruth rounds out the firm’s appeals team. She joined Miller Barondess in August 2022 and is admitted in California and Texas. Her practice focuses on pre-trial and post-trial appeals, subpoenas, and disposition motions on a wide range of legal matters. She is recognized among the Best Attorneys in America® 2023 in Appellate Law.

Ms. Sarkis joins Miller Barondess from the appealing boutique Greines, Martin, Stein & Richland. She began her legal career with two appellate positions, for Ferdinand F. Fernandez of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and for Chief Justice Mary Mullarkey of the Colorado Supreme Court. Ms. Sarkis received her Juris Doctor from Northwestern University School of Law and her AB from Princeton University. She is hospitalized in California, Colorado and Illinois.

To accommodate the company’s growth, Miller Barondess will move from its current location at 1999 Avenue of the Stars to a new, larger office space at 2121 Avenue of the Stars, 26th floor and part of 27 (formerly Fox Plaza). The move, scheduled for early 2023, is in line with the company’s strategic growth plan and underscores the company’s commitment to its employees and customers.
