Metra Rock Island Line train fatally strikes pedestrian near Midlothian

MIDLOTHIAN, Ill. (WLS) — A Metra Rock Island Line train struck and killed a man near Midlothian Friday morning, Metra said.

Metra said train #403 struck a pedestrian near Midlothian.

All inbound and outbound traffic was halted after the man was struck. Inbound traffic resumed with delays shortly after 8:30 a.m. and outbound traffic resumed around 9:15 a.m.

Metra said trains may be delayed by up to 50 minutes.

A Metra spokesperson said it is believed to be an accident and the man had paid for a ticket and was running to catch a train when he was hit.
