Masked men trying to kidnap Evanston teen in broad daylight, police say


The community is in shock after two men attempted to kidnap an 18-year-old woman in suburban Evanston on Monday.

Authorities said the incident occurred at Block 1200 on Fowler Avenue just before 4 p.m.

The woman told police she was walking through her neighborhood on her way to work when she saw a gray four-door sedan approaching. approached her.

Police said the suspect grabbed the girl and picked her up.

Police said she resisted and freed herself and ran to the nearby store where she worked.

Tsedeke Handelo, who lives nearby, was shocked by the incident.

“Disturbing. I’ve never heard of anything like this,” said Handero. “This is my first time.”

Sergeant Sophia Syed said the teenage girl was shaken by the incident and police were doing everything in their power to investigate and detain the suspect.

“It was very scary for her, obviously,” she said.

“Having the kids outside makes them think a lot,” added resident Kyle Mason.

Police have released only vague descriptions of the suspects and are looking for home surveillance footage of the incident. He was wearing black clothes and a black ski mask.

Authorities are also encouraging residents to do exactly what teenagers did. If you find yourself in a similar situation, fight back.

“I would recommend it if you’ve been kidnapped and taken to another location and might fight for your safety, make noise, try to escape, or draw attention to yourself.” Said said. “I hope someone will call the police and come help me in this situation.”
