Lea Michele opens New York Thanksgiving Day parade with ‘Funny Girl’ performance

Parades often feature a Broadway number performed at Herald Square where the parade ends. This year’s parade included routines like “Some Like It Hot” and “The Lion King.” The Rockets and several high-profile marching bands from around the country have also performed.

Jimmy Fallon, The Roots, Gloria Estefan and Dionne Warwick were also on the parade float.

Ahead of the performance, Michele shared a video on her Instagram story at 5:30 a.m. while she was getting ready in her dressing room on Broadway. She continued filming her journey to Herald Her Square.she too shared a TikTok Celebrate the occasion by dancing to “Bejeweled” by Taylor Swift.

Michele was always enthusiastic about the role of Fanny Brice. In the musical TV show Glee, set in her high school glee club, Michele’s Rachel Berry takes the role on Broadway.

Life finally imitates art, Michele landed the role earlier this year, replacing Beanie Feldstein. She received several standing ovations in the first week of September.

After she landed the role, Michele shared two photos outside the theater under the “Funny Girl” marquee. “A dream come true,” she wrote on Instagram.

Michele knows Broadway well. In 1995, she appeared in Les Misérables as young Cosette, aged 8. She is also known for her role in ‘Spring Awakening’, in which she was part of the original cast in 2006.
