Welcome to “Illini Insider,” your regular dose of University of Illinois news from beat writer Luke Taylor. Fresh out of college himself, he’s always looking for story tips, photo ideas and social media mentions. Email him at [email protected] and he’ll give chase.

Can dads dance? It’s time to put the stereotype to the test with the Dance Elixir at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the Spurlock Museum during this year’s Dads Weekend.

If you can’t stand to watch that (or if you’re a dad who doesn’t want to embarrass his kid for some reason), there are still plenty of options with a full schedule this weekend.

Here are some highlights.

Sports aren’t included here, but keep in mind hockey, basketball and football are all happening this weekend too.

LABSCAPE

5:30-10 p.m. Friday/9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday/10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday in 1262 Digital Computing Lab. $8 per student, $12 per non-student.Escape rooms have taken off lately as great group activities – and they’re usually a bit more pricey than this one. LabScape’s puzzles are all physics-themed, though you don’t need to be a scientist to solve them. Students, just be ready for your dad to explain lots of math and science to you. He’ll like that.

LASER TAG WITH DAD

7-11 p.m. Friday in the Illini UnionIf your family is on the competitive side, this might be the option over an escape room. Burn off some steam, “shoot” your dad… It’s laser tag, it’s fun.

DAD’S WEEKEND SKATE

1:30-4 p.m. Saturday at the Ice Arena. $6 for non-members.Students skate free and so do dads! Not sure how they’ll confirm dad status. Is there an ID card for that?

A CAPPELLA CONCERT: A TRIBUTE TO DAD

7:30-9 p.m. Saturday in the Foellinger Auditorium. $15 per person. This is a performance from No Comment, UI’s a cappella student group…

VARSITY MEN’S GLEE DADS DAY CONCERT

7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Krannert Center. Senior $7, Standard $10, Students and Youth $4.… and this is a performance from the men’s glee club that has been on campus since 1886. These competing concert times bring “Pitch Perfect” to mind.

ILLINI DADS SUNDAY BRUNCH

10 a.m. to noon Sunday in the Illini Union. $25 per person.Whether you make it to the morning 5k or not, finish the weekend out strong with a big meal from the Dads Association. Make sure to buy tickets ahead of time!
