Welcome to “Illini Insider,” your regular dose of University of Illinois news from beat writer Luke Taylor. Fresh out of college himself, he’s always looking for story tips, photo ideas and social media mentions. Email him at [email protected] and he’ll give chase.
One of the various recurring events at the Illini Union is “Illinites,” designed as a late-night alternative for going out to parties at least one Friday each month.
There’s a theme each time, too, so Taylor Swift fans should put the Eras Tour night on Nov. 3 from 8 p.m. to midnight on their calendars.
Junior finance and data science major Ritika Patel is the current Illinites director; she said the Eras Tour event is going to be a bigger one than usual.
“We will have activities from every ‘era’ and have little competitions throughout the night,” Patel said. “Also, we will have oxygen bars, bouncy house boxing, mummy competitions, friendship bracelets, snow globes, confessional rooms, and a lot more.”
There’s also an Illinites event 8 p.m. to midnight on Oct. 27 — the schedule ended up being a bit strange because of winter breaks.
That one, called “Mindbenders,” will feature a mentalist named Mark Toland and a hypnotist named Dale K.
It’ll be more focused on the shows than the activities included in other Illinites, but Patel said there will still be some crafts and bingo to participate in.
