PEORIA (25News Now) – A grant will help Goodwill of Central Illinois provide client-specific assistance to unemployed, under-employed and dislocated workers.

The $15,000 grant comes from the Community Impact Fund Grant from the Community Foundation of Central Illinois.

The money will allow Goodwill of Central Illinois to provide work clothing, uniforms, boots, tools, transportation cost and more to people starting a new job.

It’s the third straight year Goodwill of Central Illinois has received the grant.

“It’s a special grant that allows us to go that extra mile to those who need help and support to get a job,” said Don Johnson, CEO of Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois.

“This grant helps even with bus passes. All the unique things that are a little bit different that people ask us about. This grant helps cover those,” Johnson said.

Goodwill’s free programs are possible through the sale of donated items at their thrift stores.

The local office serves 21 counties in Central Illinois.
