CHICAGO (WLS) — A 10-year-old girl was wounded inside a bedroom after a bullet came from outside of her West Englewood home Thursday night, Chicago police said.
The girl’s grandmother said her granddaughter was over at her house visiting when the home suddenly came under fire.
The girl was playing in a back bedroom with her brother and cousin around 11 p.m. Thursday night when police said shots came flying through the window in the 6400-block of South Racine Avenue in the West Englewood neighborhood.
Neighbors described the victim as a sweet, nice girl. Her grandmother said she goes to Bass Elementary.

Willie Williams’ home next door was also hit by the gunfire.
“For the kid’s safety, it doesn’t make any sense,” Williams said.
He said at least one bullet struck his 9-year-old daughter’s bedroom. Thankfully, she wasn’t inside at the time.
“It’s terrible you know for stuff like this to happen to innocent people,” Williams said.
Hours later in the South Shore neighborhood a 14-year-old boy was also shot in the back.
Police said he was walking on the sidewalk around 3 a.m. when someone opened fired.
Both young victims are being treated at Comer’s Children’s Hospital. The 14-year-old boy is in fair condition. The 10-year-old girl was taken here in serious condition. Her grandmother said she is also doing OK.
