‘Die Hard,’ ‘Matlock,’ ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’ star Clarence Gilyard dies at 66

Popular supporting actor Clarence Geard Jr., best known for the blockbuster movies ‘Die Hard’ and ‘Top Gun’ and hit TV series ‘Matlock’ and ‘Walker of the Texas Ranger’, has died at the age of 66.

His obituary was announced this week by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he taught stage and film acting.Additional details were not immediately available on Tuesday.

“Professor Gilyard was a beacon of light and strength to everyone at UNLV around him,” said Heather Addison, chair of the school’s film committee, in a statement. “Every time we asked him how he was doing, he cheerfully replied, ‘Blessed!’ I was really blessed.”

Gilyard was from Moses Lake, Washington. He has had a prolific acting career since the 1980s, appearing in shows such as ‘Diff’rent Strokes’ and ‘The Facts of Life’. After that, he starred in his two of the biggest films of this decade. He played radar interceptor Sundown in “Top Gun” and was featured as a malicious computer master in “Die He’s Hard”. In the 1990s, he was on the side of law enforcement in “Matlock” against Andy Griffiths and “Walker, Texas Ranger” starring Chuck Norris.
