The Bears’ loss “robbed me of the joy” of football for David Montgomery, he said in an interview this week.

Montgomery said this week, “lions game live, where he and defensive back CJ Gardner-Johnson faced off at NBA 2K. He told Gardner-Johnson that he chose to sign with the Lions partly because he was disappointed with the Bears’ performance.

“or [losing] That was all I was used to,” Montgomery said. “And I’m a competitor, so it’s gotten to the point where the fun of the game is gone. I like to compete. That’s football. It’s so refreshing to be in a place where that’s valued.”

The Bears offered Montgomery a new contract, but were surprised that Montgomery chose to go to the Lions instead. Montgomery signed a three-year, $18 million contract in March, but watched Alabama’s running back Jermyl Gibbs be selected in the first round a month later.

Montgomery spent four seasons with the Bears.
