CANTON, Texas — A Danville man has been charged with murder and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly shot a passenger in another vehicle in an apparent road-rage incident in northeast Texas.

Jason R. Williams, 46, is being held in the Van Zandt County, Texas, jail in lieu of a $1.75 million bond in the fatal shooting of Caitlin Elizabeth, 31, of Louisiana.

Sheriff’s police said they received a 911 call about 1:20 p.m. Sept. 19 reporting a shooting near mile marker 520 of Interstate 20, about 50 miles east of Dallas.

The victim, who was a front-seat passenger in a vehicle that also contained two other female family members and a baby, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police stopped Williams, who was driving a semitrailer, about 20 miles from the scene of the shooting on I-20.

Police said Williams admitted he and the passenger in the car had gotten into an altercation and that he had pointed a gun at the victim but did not pull the trigger.
