CHICAGO (WLS) — A passenger on a CTA Red Line platform was critically wounded in a shooting on the South Side Thursday morning, Chicago police said.

The shooting occurred at about 12:01 a.m. in the 200-block of West Garfield Boulevard, police and police said.

Passengers said they heard at least five shots fired and they believe there was some sort of dispute with the victim before he was shot.

The CTA said they reviewed security footage, which appears to show the victim shot on the platform following an argument.

The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. Police said the victim is not cooperating with them.

Those that use the Red Line daily worry about the increase in violence.

“It’s scary,” Red Line passenger Jack Avery said. “The first thing I think of is the people innocent people that being hurt, being killed got nothing to do with what’s going on.”

“It’s sad,” Red Line passenger Kristine Whaley said. “It’s absurd how all of this violence is going on these trains. Innocent people losing their lives, getting hurt. They need to put more police on these trains”

“We need to step up as riders,” Red Line rider Kimako Mosley said. “I mean, I shouldn’t have to be ducking bullets or have to worry about getting shot going to work or going anywhere or my children if they were riding the CTA it’s bad.”

No one else was hurt and no one is in custody.

Last year, there was an increase in police patrols on the CTA because of rising crime.
