National Weather Service officials warned that with temperatures hovering in the 50s, high waves and dangerous currents are expected on Lake Michigan beaches through noon Thursday, creating life-threatening conditions for swimmers.
Beach hazards continued until noon in Lake and northern Cook counties, Illinois, and Lake and Porter counties, Indiana.
Waves up to 3-7 feet are expected, officials warned swimmers to stay off piers, piers, breakwaters and other shoreline structures.
Highs were expected to reach just 57 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
