Police at the scene said the crime appeared to be related to a failed carjacking at the 3200 block of North Broadway about 30 minutes ago.
In that incident, a man reported that four or five men tried to steal his black BMW around 11:25 pm. One of his offenders threatened him with a gun fitted with a red laser. Barry’s victim is also a detail reported to police. said the rep.
However, the man targeted on Broadway did not file a police report.
In the second half of 2022, the pace of carjacking reports began to wane as the “Kia Boys” phenomenon hit the city, but cases are on the rise early in the year.
By January 16, the most recent data available, the Chicago Police Department had received 99 carjacking reports this month. This is up slightly from last year’s pace, below the all-time high for 2021, and well above the numbers prior to that.
