The former Chicago Bear has plans to build the 100-plus-year-old Motor Row building.

Developer Hudson Michigan Avenue, which counts Idonije as a partner, plans to convert the four-story, 38-unit building at a price of $62.5 million. RTM Engineering Consultants is responsible for the engineering and design of a project called Hudson Motor Row.

The original plans for the building called for a members-only co-working space with a philanthropic focus, similar to Idonije’s Impact House, which opened in the Loop in 2020.

The terracotta building was designed by Chicago architect Alfred Alschler in 1922 for the Hudson Automobile Company, which operated from 1909 to 1954.

The Hudson Motor Row development is the latest in an ongoing effort by the city to revitalize Motor Row after it was designated a Chicago Landmark District in 2000. Mayor Lori Lightfoot said in July that he gave $11 million to improve the neighborhood’s infrastructure.

Historic buildings are popular with investors these days. Last month, North American Real Estate Ventures and David “Buzz” Rattenberg purchased the 100-year-old Flatiron Arts Building at the intersection of Damen, North and Milwaukee Avenues from Berger Realty Group for $19.7 million. did.
