CHICAGO — A Morgan Park man has been charged with reckless murder after killing another driver while speeding through the South Loop on Sunday night. Kendall Sprouts, 18, is scheduled to appear in bonded court this afternoon. Details of the case will be revealed at his bail hearing.

A Chicago Police Department patrol unit pulled over 22-year-old Keyshawn Gray in Block 1400, Southern Michigan, around 8:00 p.m., but Gray began to move away from the traffic stop and made a U-turn.

About halfway through the turn, the gray Hyundai was allegedly gutted on the driver’s side by an Infiniti driven by Sprout. Gray died that night. Six of his others, including Sprout, were taken to an area hospital, police said.

Chicago police arrested Sprout at the scene as he climbed out of the wreckage. In addition to reckless homicide by motor vehicle, Sprouts is charged with felony aggravated reckless driving causing bodily harm.

CPD surveillance video, originally posted on Twitter by Neal Edelstein, captures the crash. Embed Edelstein’s tweet below. The footage is shocking and disturbing, but does not contain graphic images.

CWBChicago will post a full update after Sprouts appears in court today.
