Carbondale Police investigate the home invasion; 1 suspect in custody

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) – A person is in custody in connection with a home burglary investigation.

Dakota W. Mitchell, 31, of Carbondale, was arrested for trespassing, damaging property, trespassing, disorderly conduct, and resisting/obstructing a peace officer.

According to Carbondale Police, they responded to the 1000 block of West Gher Street at approximately 3.16am Wednesday July 12 to a reported home invasion.

Police say Mitchell and other unidentified suspects raided the victim’s home. Mitchell is accused of assaulting the victim, who sustained minor injuries.

Mitchell and the other suspects reportedly ran away from the house and the victim shot at them.

According to police, Mitchell was later found in the area and arrested. He was taken to the Jackson County Jail.

A second suspect was described as a medium-skinned man wearing a black hoodie.

No further suspicious descriptions are currently available. Police believe that none of the suspects were injured by the gunfire.

Police say the crash resulted from a personal dispute between Mitchell and the victim.
