LAS VEGAS – No charges will be filed following a brief investigation into the altercation involving pop star Britney Spears, San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama and a member of the player’s security team, Las Vegas police said Friday Vegas.

Police say surveillance video shows Spears inadvertently punching herself in the face after her hand was pushed off Wenbayamam’s shoulder.

Spears said she was shot by a security guard as she tried to approach Wembanyama near a restaurant at a Las Vegas casino complex Wednesday night. Wembanyama said one person — he was later told it was Spears — grabbed him from behind.

Spears filed a police complaint, accusing her of battery. The Las Vegas Metro Police Department said its investigation is complete and “no charges will be filed against the person involved.”

Wembanyama is expected to make his NBA Summer League debut for the Spurs in Las Vegas on Friday night. The 7-foot-tall French teenager was the No. 1 pick in last month’s NBA Draft and is entering the league as successfully as anyone since LeBron James in 2003.

The altercation occurred on Wednesday evening; Spears said she recognized Wembanyama at another hotel the night before her and when she saw him again at the Aria Resort & Casino she “decided to approach him and congratulate him on her success.”

Spears said: ‘His confidence then returned me in the face without looking back, in front of a crowd. She nearly knocked me over and knocked my glasses off her face.

Spears said in Twitter and Instagram posts that the encounter was “super awkward” and denied grabbing Wembanyama, saying she just “papped him on the shoulder to get his attention.” She also said she hoped to get an apology from the team or the security guard she said was involved.

Wembanyama had a different account of events. He said security advised him not to stop for anyone as he entered the restaurant, aware a pause could cause a stir and allow a crowd to form. He said a person was yelling at him “sir, sir,” “and that person grabbed me from behind,” he said.

He was told hours later that person was Spears. She never saw her, she said, because she never turned around.
