Arizona Cardinals fire assistant coach Sean Coogler after incident in Mexico City


The Arizona Cardinals have fired offensive line coach and run game coordinator Sean Coogler.

The Cardinals have not formally confirmed Coogler’s dismissal, but the coach was no longer on the list. team website on tuesday. Coach Cliff Kingsbury told Arizona Republic’s Bob McManaman that Kugler was fired due to an unspecified incident in Mexico City on Sunday night. The coach did not elaborate on the reasons for the dismissal.

Kugler, 56, has been on the Kingsbury staff since 2019 and was UTEP’s head coach from 2013 to 2017. He was popular among the players and Kingsbury regularly praised him for his work.

The Cardinals are 4-7 this season, and injuries on the offensive line are one of the team’s many problems. Four of his five of the starters missed Monday night’s game due to various illnesses.

Coogler is the second member of the Cardinals’ coaching staff to face discipline this season. Running back coach James Saxon is on leave after being charged with two counts of domestic violence.
