In 1923, an appeals court in Springfield overturned the Champaign County Circuit Court conviction of Perlty Wiggins, who was convicted of accepting deposits for the defunct Citizens Bank of Homer, knowing the bank was insolvent. The former bank president’s case was sent back to Champaign County for trial.

In 1973, five students from Eastern Illinois University filed a class-action suit in federal district court to contest regulations requiring all freshmen and sophomores to live in campus residence halls.
