Today is Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023. Here are local news reports from 100, 50 and 15 years ago:

In 1923, “Red” Grange, Illini super halfback who was laid out temporarily after five Badgers tackled him during Saturday’s game, was semi-delirious until 7 o’clock that evening as a result of the injury to his head. He recovered quickly, however, and by Sunday was apparently as sound as ever.

In 1973, the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District Board of Trustees delayed for a week any action on a proposal to replace the present grid route system with the former loop system.

In 2008, one of the sexual-assault victims of former Urbana teacher Jon White agreed to settle claims against the Urbana school district for $300,000. Though no civil suit was filed on behalf of the victim — referred to as Jane Doe-1 — the settlement must go through court for approval, because Doe is a minor.
