here are the details.

The government has promised to lift the remaining epidemic restrictions from mid-June, however, on the last day, it did not allow the complete decommissioning of the hitherto mandatory mask use.

According to the order of the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza the Ffp2 mask must continue to be worn in public transport until 30 September, so on city buses as well as on trains or ships. The extension of the mask use did not win the public’s favor, as the Ffp2 mask is difficult to wear in the heat on buses, metros and trains, which are often without air conditioning.

The only exceptions are airports and planes departing from or arriving in Italy, where no mask is required from Thursday. With this measure, Rome has adapted to the solution already introduced in other countries of the European Union.

The use of the mask in cinemas, theaters and indoor sports halls is no longer mandatory, as in education, but the ministry of health advised teachers and students to wear it at graduation exams starting next week.

The mask is still mandatory in hospitals, other health care facilities, and nursing homes.

The vaccination obligation for those over fifty, which was introduced in February, will be lifted from Thursday. Among those over fifty who have not been vaccinated so far, 2.4 million people have been fined one hundred dolars in recent months.

More than 31,000 new patients were screened and 48 died on Wednesday. In the last week, the number of cases per day has increased by almost thirty percent, and the number of patients treated in hospital is slowly but gradually rising again. The National Research Center (CNR) predicts the spread of Omikron 5 virus variant will peak in August. Among those infected is Health Minister Roberto Speranza, who is falling ill during home quarantine.

However, Lombardy, known as one of the European focal points for Covid-19, was the first day in 2022 when no patients died.

In Italy, there are more than 600,000 active patients, more than four thousand in hospitals, almost one hundred and ninety in the intensive care unit.

As part of the phasing-out of restrictions on the coronavirus epidemic, the opening of Italian coastal beaches will also be allowed, but only under strict safety rules.
