A van stolen from a Rockford funeral home was found in Chicago, but it contained no bodies. Authorities later found the body in another part of the city on Monday, police said.
Rockford police said the van was outside the Collins & Stone Funeral Home when it was stolen Saturday afternoon. A man’s body was found in the luggage compartment of the van.
The van was later found in Chicago, but the body was missing, Rockford police said. “We are currently working with law enforcement to investigate this incident,” the agency said in a tweet.
More than six hours later, police said the body had been found on the 8200 block of South Manistee Avenue in South Chicago.
Rockford Police have identified a suspect and released a photo of the person believed to have stolen the van.
