PEORIA (25News Now) – Nine organizations received awards and were recognized for their philanthropy in the community.

The Central Illinois Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals announced this year’s National Philanthropy Day award recipients at a luncheon Wednesday morning at the Gateway Building.

Some of the categories were for outstanding philanthropist, outstanding philanthropic corporation, volunteer fundraiser and outstanding youth in philanthropy – along with the giving heart award.

AFP advances philanthropy through its 30,000 members in more than 240 chapters throughout the world.

“Individuals and organizations that are nominated are people that just really go above and beyond in serving the community, whether it’s by giving their time to raise funds or giving their treasure to make our community a better place,” said Kristen Berchtold, chair of the event.
