Officials said two people were killed and three injured in a shooting incident police described as a “targeted” burglary in the South Shore area on Monday afternoon.
The Chicago Fire Department responded to Block 2900 on East 78th Street at approximately 1:45 p.m. Fire officials said two people died at the scene and three of his others were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center. One of his three injured went to a nearby McDonald’s for help.
At a news conference Monday afternoon, Deputy Police Chief Sean Laurent said preliminary information indicated people were shot during a “targeted” home invasion. What I can say specifically is that[it]doesn’t seem to be a random act,” he added.
He confirmed that one of the victims had fled to a nearby shop about 800m away. Loughran said detectives are conducting an investigation, which includes investigating neighborhoods, identifying witnesses, cataloging video evidence and processing crime scenes.
He said a $15,000 reward was being offered for information related to the shooting that led to his arrest.
Firefighters said the victims were a man in his 20s and a woman in her 30s. The injured man, in his 40s, is in critical condition. Another injured was a man in his late teens to early twenties.
