1 killed, 2 injured in shooting outside Waukegan shopping mall


One person died after a shot in a shopping center parking lot Waukegan Wednesday evening.

Waukegan police say around 6:20 p.m. three victims were found shot outside a strip mall in the 1300 block of North Green Bay Road.

A 20-year-old man and another 30-year-old man, both from North Chicago, were injured, as was a 40-year-old man from Waukegan.

They were all taken to an area hospital for their injuries. The 20-year-old man died Thursday morning of his injuries.


The Waukegan Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is investigating. The motive for the shooting is not known at this time.

Detectives say the suspects fired multiple shots while the three men were in the parking lot. No one was killed in a specific shop. Police have not released the amount of shell casings recovered or the caliber of bullets used.

At this point, no one is in custody.
